Democracy
A fair, representative, inclusive democracy based on the “will of the people,” with fully functioning public institutions, is necessary to ensure the fundamental human rights and dignity of every person in the US. The US Program’s democracy work strives to foster democracy in the US that is racially just and resilient by working with movements to address the root causes of its failings. We work to promote robust civic engagement; protect the right to vote, free from discrimination and suppression; ensure fair checks, balances, and allocation of power; and safeguard access to facts and truthful information, including through a free press, safe social media platforms, and education.
